The columnar basalt at Balung River of Tawau is the only one in Malaysia! This place is called "Batu Bersusun" which means neatly arranged rocks. These columnar joints were formed during the cooling process of hot lava about 27,000 years ago. The lava was coming from the volcanic eruption of Mount Maria.
